Notice - New Application Software
Barrow County now utilizes Tyler Energov for their new Citizen Self Service Portal software for Planning & Community Development applications, which allows citizens to submit applications online and keep track of their approval process.
**Inspection request may be requested on the CSS portal once you have created a login. For permits issued prior to 8/26/2025, please contact our offices for the first inspection request. Click here for a helpful how to schedule an inspection guide.**

Obtaining Building Permits

For Residential Permits, an Environmental Health approval letter is required with your application if your property is serviced by a septic system.
Environmental Health approval is NOT required if your property is serviced by a public sewer system.

You will need a permit for any structural change in an existing structure and any building/structures being added to the property.
- How can I know where my septic tank is located?

- Do I need a permit for a fence?

Barrow County does not require a fence permit.

Our typically turn time for permit reviews is 2-3 weeks.
