Barrow County offices to close as Helene passes

News Posted on September 26, 2024

Barrow County Government offices will close at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 and remain closed Friday, Sept. 27 due to the anticipated weather associated with Hurricane Helene.

This includes Barrow County’s administrative offices, courts, senior center, animal shelter and Victor Lord Park.

“As citizens prepare for Helene’s arrival, we encourage them to sign up for emergency alerts, ensuring they receive timely and accurate information as the storm moves through Barrow County,” said Alan Shuman, Barrow County Fire Chief. “This storm is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds, so we ask that residents limit travel as much as possible during this time.”

Residents are also encouraged to make an emergency preparedness kit; information on preparedness can be found at ready.gov.

During the weather event, essential public safety and public works personnel will remain on duty. Citizens reporting non-life-threatening emergencies, such as downed trees or power lines, should call non-emergency lines at any of the following phone numbers:

  • 678-219-0164
  • 470-891-2726
  • 470-891-2981

As always, life threatening emergencies such as house fires, injury or other imminent danger should be reported via 911.
