Office of the Solicitor General

The Solicitor General is elected by the voters of Barrow County and serves as the prosecuting attorney in the Barrow County State Court. The Barrow County Solicitor's Office is responsible for the prosecution of all State misdemeanor crimes and all Barrow County ordinance violations where a jury trial demand is filed. 

Mission

The mission of the Solicitor’s Office is to minimize recidivism by addressing the cause of the crime commission head on. By exercising prosecutorial discretion, our office determines the best way to secure justice through appropriate sentences for individual defendants.

Misdemeanor Crimes

Misdemeanors are any crimes punishable by a maximum of 12 months in jail and $1000 fine

Crimes Against Persons

Misdemeanors include but are not limited to crimes against persons such as: 

  • Domestic Violence 
  • Battery 
  • Stalking
  • Simple Battery
  • Simple Assault 
  • Statutory Rape (in some cases)

Property Crimes

Misdemeanors also include property crimes such as

  • Criminal Trespass 
  • Theft by Shoplifting (less than $500)
  • Theft by Taking (less than $1500)

Traffic Violations

Traffic violations that occur in Barrow County and those bound over from Auburn, Braselton, Statham, and Winder Municipal courts for jury trials are also prosecuted in State Court such as: 

  • Homicide by Vehicle (2nd Degree)
  • Fleeing and Eluding 
  • Driving under the Influence 
  • Reckless Driving 
  • Hit and Run 
  • License Violations 
  • Speeding
  • Other moving, equipment, tag violations
