Construction Site Runoff Control Program |
| Stormwater runoff from construction sites can be a big contributor to stormwater pollution. Active construction sites have large quantities of exposed earth that can result in a built up of sediments in nearby streams if not appropriately controlled. Sedimentation in streams can degrade water quality and habitat, thus, affecting aquatic and wildlife. Barrow County has adopted a new Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance, and will be expanding its current inspection and enforcement efforts for active construction sites. |
| Training The County is also required to educate the development community about stormwater problems on construction sites to ensure the local and state requirements are known and understood, and to make it clear that fines and "stop work" orders can and will be issued to violators. To help disperse this information throughout the development community, the County is offering erosion and sediment control seminars to update attendees on all applicable regulations. We also need your help! One additional way to get involved in protecting our water resources is through complaint reporting. County residents are urged to keep apprised of what is going on in the community surrounding them. If you see excessive erosion and sedimentation escaping an active construction site, please fill out the County's Stormwater Complaint Reporting Form so that we can investigate potential problems. |
