The Road & Bridges Dept. maintains county roads (paved & dirt), maintains bridges, addresses drainage and sediment/erosion problems, maintains streets and traffic signs. Removes animal carcass, cuts grass and bushes along county roads several times per year, and performs ice & debri removal. The Road & Bridges teams works with all other County Departments to assist as needed, such as KBB, Storm Water, Animal Control, B&G, Engineering, Leisure/Recreation Center, Fire Stations, Water Authority, & Cities in the County. We also have the use of the Barrow County Inmate work detail crew to assist in trash pick-up & maintaining lawns for Barrow County buildings and departments.
Accomplishments for the Department/Staff 2007:
No major employee’s accident or injuries were reported within the department in 2007. There were 19 county roads completed rebuilt/paved, in addition to the L.A.R.P & Non L.A.R.P projects that were completed. We worked in heat, rain, & ice to completed assignments in a safe and efficient manner. Staff members have completed the following classes: FEMA Management Study, First Aid class, Flagging Safety Class, Self Defensive Driving, Confined Space class, Erosion/Sediment Certification & CDL Driving Licenses all was received. We have enjoyed and are committed to helping the citizens & other departments.
