Barrow County has increased in population by 45.5% since the 2000 Census from 46,144 to 67,139 and is ranked 4th fasted growing in the State and 12th in the Nation from July 2006 to July 2007. The American Planning Association suggests that to service our community adequately there should be one planner for each 10,000 constituents. If you remove the municipality populations then unincorporated Barrow would require 5 planners. We currently serve our community with 4 planners. As our population grows the needs of the public will require more staff as with any department within a rapidly growing County.
