Mission Statement

Magistrate court provides an impartial forum for the just and prompt resolution of cases through the uniform and coherent application of the Constitution, Laws of the State of Georgia, and the ordinances of Barrow County.

 

Information:

Barrow County’s Judicial System is made up of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit’s Superior and Juvenile Courts, the Office of the District Attorney, Clerk of Courts, Magistrate and Probate Courts, as well as the Public Defender.  The Piedmont Judicial Circuit is comprised of Banks, Barrow, and Jackson Counties. The Courts System, which is responsible for the hearings associated with criminal and civil actions.

Magistrate court provides an impartial forum for the just and prompt resolution of cases through the uniform and coherent application of the Constitution, Laws of the State of Georgia, and the ordinances of Barrow County.  The number of civil actions have increased from 3,000 in 2002 to 6,300 in 2005. The overall activity of the Magistrate Court has increased by 75 percent since 2005.  Criminal cases processed by the Magistrate Court has increase by 46 cases per 1,000 citizens, and the number of warrants per 1,000 citizens has increased from 70.5 to 113.8.
