How to use 911
1. Dial the digits 9-1-1 from any residential, cellular, or coin operated phone. If you are at another location that requires you to dial another digit for an outside line, then dial that digit, and then 9-1-1. examples, hospitals or businesses.
2. Report the reason for your call(police, fire or medical). Give the exact location where the incident is occurring, your name and phone number. Be prepared to answer questions asked by the dispatcher in reference to your emergency.Even though the dispatcher continues to ask you questions related to the incident, emergency response units will have already been dispatched.
3. If you are reporting a fire, advise what is on fire, if anyone is in danger such as trapped inside of a burning structure or a burning vehicle .
4. If you are reporting a medical emergency,you will need to be prepared to answer questions about the the person or patient that needs assistance. Barrow County Communications Officers are trained in pre-arrival instructions such as CPR, Allergic Reactions, Pregnancy/Childbirth,etc. While questions are still being asked,assistance is already on the way.
5. If you are reporting a crime,you may be ask to provide a suspect's description, vehicle description,including tag numbers and direction of travel. However do not put yourself in danger to obtain the information that is being asked of you.
