The role of the Buildings and Grounds Department is to provide ongoing maintenance for County buildings and grounds in order to ensure long lasting service and value. To fulfill this role Buildings and Grounds strives to provide maintenance that is cost effective and work that is efficient. The focus of this department is not only on current maintenance and service, but also on a forward vision of the needs of the County’s facilities in the foreseeable future. Service activities are scheduled through an active work order process. Priorities are established by the severity of each work order request submitted.
Buildings and Grounds activities are increasing annually. New activities for 2006 include many new building projects: Roads and Bridges Shop, Adult Day Care Facility, and New Criminal Justice and Administration Facility to name a few. These projects are concurrent to any service and maintenance needs of the County.
From 2005 to 2006 the Department completed 937 regular work orders, plus 450 in-shop work orders totaling 1,387 completed requests. Fiscal year 2006 projects to over 1,500 work orders throughout the County. The work completed by Buildings and Grounds assures the County and Citizens their property will be well maintained and cared for to provide the most years of appreciable use for each facility.
For 2006, the Buildings and Grounds Department will be conducting an energy audit for all county buildings. Some of the improvements will include replacing outdated and inefficient HVAC systems with high efficiency systems. Also, the Department in association with local utility providers will be assessing ways to reduce energy consumption. A unified energy plan for all county facilities will be implemented to include such things as thermostat settings, constructing new facilities with LEEDS requirements in mind, and the evaluation of duel fuel systems.
