The Barrow County Board of Tax Assessors reminds everyone that January 2 – April 1 is the time frame to file tax returns and apply for exemptions to your real property such as homestead, school tax partial exemption, or disabled veteran exemption. Also available are special covenant exemptions such as Agricultural/Conservation Use or Historical Property. You must apply for any exemptions, they are not automatic, and you must apply by April 1 for the exemptions to be applied to that year tax records.
For those holding the Extra Local School Tax Partial Exemption, it was voted on and passed to no longer have to reapply every year for that exemption. So once you brought in your information for tax year 2016, you would no longer have to reapply unless your income situation has a significant change.
